On Saturday July 29th, 2006, two of Shri lanka's greatest cricketers created a "World Record" batting partnership of unbelievable magnitude in Test Cricket at the Shinhalese Sports Club, Columbo in the First Test against South Africa. Captain Mahela Jayawardene (374) and Vice Captain Kumar Sangakkara (287) made world cricket history by recording the highest batting partnership ever in a Test of First Class Match. "The Partnership" between "best Mates" Jayawardene and Sangakkara was magnificent 624 run Third Wicket stand that shattered the alltime Test and First Class batting partnership records.
